How To Migrate To Canada As A Teacher

When you plan to migrate to Canada as a teacher, bear in mind to follow the steps outlined below here;

STEP 1: The first thing you have to do is to visit the CIC website and check your NOC code and employment level

STEP 2: Choose which of the Canadian province you’d love to migrate to.

STEP 3: Since the local govt offers teaching jobs, it’s pertinent that you confirm with the local educational teaching board what its requirements are for international applicants.

You’ll need to know the educational degree the local government is looking for. Also, they will need a teaching certificate which you’ll have to get from the authorized body in the province you want to teach at. Additionally, it’s pertinent that you know which of the membership requirement they need (either provincial or territorial teachers’ associations)

You will need to know if they require a work reference letter.

Lastly, if you want a second language, such as English or French, you have to know the certificate required when applying for a teaching job in that field of specialty.

STEP 4: After you are done with step 3, you’ll have to take the Educational Credential Assessment.

PS: Before you immigrate to Canada, make sure to have already looked for a job.

Choose an immigration program That Suit Your Qualification

In your quest to migrate to Canada as a teacher, know that numerous immigration programs can be used to get that done. In this case, you are advised to decide and apply for the rightful program that meets your qualifications.

Express entry system, provincial nominee program (PNP), Atlantic immigration pilot, and rural and northern immigration pilot are the best immigration programs suitable for teachers aspiring to work professionally in Canada.

Nonetheless, one of the easiest ways to move to Canada as a teacher is to apply for immigration under the Skilled Worker Stream, which happens to be a federal program that Express Entry controls.

Additionally, try your best to qualify for a Provincial Nomination which falls under the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). If you are successfully nominated, that means you are assured of a spot in Canada.

Find A Teaching Board That Suit Your Interest

In Canada, more than three boards are in charge of determining if someone is fit to work as a teacher in each Canadian province.

Click here to see the list of all Authorize Regulatory Bodies for the Teaching Profession in Canada, Depending on Your Province of Residence.

For instance, in the British Columbia province, the  Teacher Regulation Branch is the organization body in charge of who is allowed to teach in their province.

However, each province has its unique requirements you gads met. Some of their general requirements include that;

  • You must have finished an education program that aligns with Canadian standards.
  • Have a three years program degree from a recognized university
  • Suitably qualified candidates must meet all the language requirements, be it in English or French
  • Teaching certificate from the regulatory body in charge of the Province you are moving into. This definitive academic record will confirm your areas of studies and at least two years of working experience.

NOTE:

You can not be considered fit for a Teaching Certificate without completing a Canadian accepted education program.

Suppose you haven’t met the teaching certificate requirement. In that case, you can fix the problem by simply applying for a course at one of the accepted Canadian educational institutions out of the many universities you’ll see in Canada.

Why Should You Get the Teaching Certificate?

If you want to start teaching preschool to k12 age groups, this certificate will convince the employers that you are certified for the job role.

That notwithstanding, you must also be aware that assuming you get to qualify for a Teaching Certificate in one province or territory, you can only teach in the province you are certified from since each province has its different regulations and rules.

Someone obtaining a teaching certificate in the British Columbia province of Canada doesn’t mean that person is eligible to teach in the Ontario province of the country.

Howbeit, some teaching positions don’t require a teaching certificate in most cases, and they are;-

  • Private school teachers are primarily certified by the College or Institution if the school needs that.
  • International language, Continue education, Education assistants, music teaching, Private language instructors, and Montessori educator.
  • English or French second language aspiring teachers need to have a TESL or TFSL certificate. That will accredit them to teach in a university, college, or non-profit organization.
  • If you are applying for Community teachers, the requirement is a Master’s degree if you are to teach full-time.
  • If you want to apply for a lecturing job at a Canadian university, you must have either a Master’s or PhD
  • Early childhood daycare
